A Beautiful Shared Girl Room Update

Lately, I’ve received a few questions about the shared girl room makeover. So I decided to share a post on how their room looks right now. It’s not finished yet, but we’re hoping to have the girls room done in the few couple weeks. Fingers crossed!

Shared Girl Room Closet

The closet really hasn’t changed much since we finished it. But, you may have noticed that the doors aren’t up yet.

We have gone back and forth between hanging a curtain, or leaving it as it is until we can paint the doors.

I’ll be honest, I think a curtain would dress it up, but I also think that the girls would pull on it A LOT while they’re playing. I see visions of the curtain falling down or being ripped.

I know it’s the easy option but I’m leaning toward just leaving it like it is. The weather will be warm soon and I’ll be able to spray the doors outside before I know it.

At least that’s what I keep telling myself every time I walk outside and it’s still cold haha!

Bunk Bed

THIS BED IS AMAZING!

Of all the decisions we made when we started working on their room, the bed is by far the best! They love the bunk bed and so far…

NO ONE HAS FALLEN OFF THE BED!!

We’ve donked our heads a few times but nothing terrible.

We did add a little something to the bed recently.

Notice something that looks different than the first time I shared this view with you?

Yup! It’s a chicken feeder from the family farm! According to my daughter, it’s the best! So simple & easy. Yet so impactful!

Mom’s Take on A Bunk Bed

I will say the one and the only downside I have experienced so far is how difficult it is to make the beds.

Honestly, I just ask the girls to do their best and as long as it looks halfway decent we call it good.

This generally works out because my youngest only wants to sleep under her mint throw blanket, and my oldest meticulously slides herself in at night and then slides herself out in the morning. So her blankets don’t really move that much.

When I change sheets is the only time it gets put back together “perfectly”. But other than that I don’t think the amount of time and energy required to make a bunk bed look “perfect” is worth it. Am I right?!

Toy Storage | Shared Girl Room

Remember when I told you the pie safe moved? This is where it is now! I didn’t plan on moving the pie safe into their room, until I was looking at their desk.

Heirloom Desk

The story behind this desk is a special one. My great-grandpa built this desk for my Grammy and her sister when they were little.

Since then it has been a desk played with by my dad and uncle, and then me and all my siblings and cousins. Now it is played with by my girls and my nieces.

This desk is probably one of my ultimate favorite pieces of furniture in our home. At first glance, it’s not somehow better than any other kids’ desk.

But when I look at it, I see so much more than just a kids desk.

Some of the items in our home make me wonder, “What’s your story?” But, with this desk, I know the stories, and they are special to me.

Anyway, when I was getting ready to move into the girls’ room, I noticed the same chipping white paint with pink paint on the chairs. Then it hit me, the pie safe has chipping white paint with pink under it too.

It felt too perfect! So I decided to move it into the girls room with the desk.

Wall Decor | Shared Girl Room

The only other thing that we have done since the girls moved in was hang a couple things up on the wall. Both of these pieces are from the girls Gramma and Pap.

Corkboard

Gramma made this cork board for the girls when we first moved into this house.

I wanted a way to display our little girls work but didn’t know what to do. One day when they stopped by for a visit she brought this with her.

The girls asked to move it in their bedroom a few weeks ago, and I’m so excited about it! I love it in this space.

That being said, I did walk into their room the other day and found the thumbtacks all over the floor. I panicked ever so slightly.

Now I’m on the lookout for an alternative.

Since the corkboard is in their room I want them to be able to use it independently. In this case, that means removing the thumbtacks.

If you have an recommendations, I’d love to hear them!

Mirror

I love this mirror. It was used as my sister-in-laws bridal shower. But now this sweet mirror and it’s beautiful quote gets to be a daily reminder to my little girls.

In a world that is constantly making us feel less than, I want the girls to hear over and over again that they are enough.

When I read these words I hear the wisdom that the most important accessory is something that both of my girls already posses.

Their sweet smiles.

What’s Left? | Shared Girl Room

Built-In Bookcase

This is the last big project for their room. Which is good, because SUMMER IS COMING! If you read my kitchen open shelves post you know we have a lot planned for our outdoor spaces this year. So we have got to wrap up our big indoor projects.

Curtains or Blinds

We go back and forth, but right now, the curtain situation is not ideal. They are constantly pulling the curtain down and I’m having to hang it back up.

I know tension rods aren’t the strongest, but before the makeover process began they had curtains hanging on a regular curtain rod.

Somehow, no one really knows how, that curtain rod was bent and so were the hooks that held the rod up on the wall.

Isn’t it funny how things happen around the house and NO ONE knows how it happened haha!

Paint the Doors

Like I mentioned with the closet doors, once the weather is warm enough we will be spraying the doors outside.

We are so close to being finished with this makeover and I’m so excited I can’t stand it! We’re in the home stretch!
