Simple Preschool Shared Girls Room Plans

Today I’m so excited to share all about our shared girls room plans with you, from wallpapering to a closet system and a built-in bookcase.

It’s official! Our baby is growing up! We’ve been doing all the transition stuff and she is finally ready to make the leap. She will be moving in with her big sister!

If you’ve been following along for very long, you know we love DIY projects over here. We’ve done a wall rack, milk paint faux fireplace, pallet table, and so much more. But our shared girls room will be the biggest DIY we’ve done that I’ve shared with you all.

I’m excited, but you’ll have to be patient with us. Slow and steady is our go-to speed haha! Sprinting a little, walking some, but mostly a brisk jog.

Space for Imagination Play

Bunk Bed

The room we selected to be our shared girls room is the largest of the non-master bedrooms. We have space to put two regular beds in this room. But, because our girls are so young we wanted to make sure they have space to play in their room. The solution to this problem is a bunk bed.

For those of you who know my secondborn, or for those of you who have a wild child like me, a bunk bed sounds terrifying! The visions of her jumping off the top bunk play on repeat in my mind. Until recently, I was sure she was going to attempt to fly from the bunk bed.

Although, I did receive some good news on that front the other day. Randomly, she walked up to me and told me that she “cannot fly”.

I know she can’t fly.

But, I also know that she was working on the details of this task. Praise Jesus it all worked out in gravities favor!

Just in case she wants to continue her experiments we decided to go with a bunk bed that is short. The bed we selected has the bottom mattress on the floor.

Shared Girls Room Storage

Since we will be condensing what they each have in their separate rooms into one room it’s imperative that we create more storage for them. I think this has been the greatest challenge in the planning of this shared girls room.

Book Storage

Right now each girl has so many books that the bookcase shelves are full and overflowing. So larger book storage is a must. I also need to go through all the books and start putting away the baby books and seasonal/holiday books.

Our girls love reading so much, I just don’t want to limit their book selection too much. They get to go on great adventures and learn while they read.

Just last night before bed we read a section from our Planet Earth book. We learned about elephants in Tanzania. One thing lead to another and before I knew it we were all in Tanzania, Africa going over all the animal details of my trip to Tanzania in college. We talked about giraffes so tall, wild baby lions close enough to touch, hearing hippos splashing in the river outside my bedroom window at night, and more wildebeest than you could count.

Books help our girls leave the confines of Ohio, and travel the world, galaxy, and all the places you can only enter through your imagination. When we redo their bedroom I want it to be a space that encourages more of this.

Toy Storage

Toy storage, oh toy storage! My husband has been wanting to move some of the girls’ toys out of the living room. I’m okay will doing this a little, but I’m not ready for the living room to be empty of their toys. I want them to want to play in my space. I know a day is coming when they will value the privacy of their bedroom above being in the living room/kitchen with me.

To make everyone happy, we are going to be giving the girls some cubies with baskets in their shared girls’ room for some of the toys. I’m super excited about the plans we have for this. Think heirloom and vintage!

Shared Girls Room Closet Makeover

A shared girls room means a shared girls closet. Honestly, of all the things, this scared me the most. I just knew it was going to be 100% impossible for the girls to share a closet.

But guys!! The closet is nearly finished as I type this and guess what?! They have everything they need in ONE closet! I’ll share the closet makeover, and the process with you guys soon. I just have a few final touches to finish and then it’ll be all done.

Above all the technical details and the why’s behind them, the girls are excited! Even if I make a mistake during this makeover, which let’s be serious, I’ll make at least five, the girls are loving everything about it. That is all that matters!
