The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies
There is nothing more warm and cozy than fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven on a cold winter day.
The way the oven warms the house, and the smell lingers long after the cookies are finished baking is beyond words.
I want to give warm and cozy away for Christmas, so I decided homemade chocolate chip cookie dough was the way to do it.
Back when I was working as a nurse, I walked into the breakroom for lunch and discovered a stack of papers sitting on a table.
They were copies of a chocolate chip cookie recipe.
I grabbed one and I am sure glad I did!
This recipe has become the only chocolate chip cookie recipe we use.
Not to mention, everyone who asks for the recipe after they eat one of the cookies.
I’ve been asked for it more times than I can count.
People call them “Your Chocolate Chip Cookies”.
My sister asks me to make “my chocolate chip cookies” every year around this time.
These are my favorite chocolate chip cookies because they are soft, yet they have the slightest bit of crunch if you leave them in the oven slightly longer.
I also love the way these cookies rise.
I’m not a huge fan of flat cookies or fluffy cookies.
I went through a season where every batch of cookies I made was fluffy and it drove me bonkers.
But luckily a precious person copied this recipe and left it somewhere for me to find.
Now the fluffy chocolate chip cookie days are behind me!
Since I get asked for this recipe so much, I thought why not put it here for everyone to find. This way when you need it, it’s always available.
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 sticks Butter softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar packed
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 box instant vanilla pudding 3.9 oz
- 1 bag milk chocolate chips
Instructions
- First, leave the butter out on the counter to soften enough to mix. (My favorite butter is the Land O'Lakes unsalted)
- After butter is soft, mix butter with sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla
- Mix all the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda & pudding mix) into a seperate bowl
- Once the soft indgredients are mixed begin slowly adding drying ingredients
- Lastly, mix in the chocolate chips
- Now is when I preheat the oven to 375
- Now that the cookie dough is prepared I like to put it in the refrigerator to help it get a bit more firm and less sticky
- Once you can handle the dough without it sticking to your hands you can begin rolling the dough into little balls, or use a scoop to place little dollops of dough on the backing sheet
- I like to use my stone baking sheets when I bake these cookies, so I begin placing the balls on my preheated stone cookie sheet
- Bake the cookies for 8-10 min depending on how brown you like your cookie to be
How to Gift Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Usually, when I make these chocolate chip cookies it goes something like this:
I’m working on the cookies in the kitchen with my girls while we are enjoying a football game after church.
Sundays are days for rest and relaxation at our house.
Church, playing games, baking cookies, and watching football is our favorite kind of Sunday.
However, that husband of mine, you know, the one I like to brag about so often…I have to be like a ninja to keep him away from the cookie dough!!
This struggle on Sunday afternoon lead me to do a little research and gain some inspiration.
Why not make the chocolate chip cookie dough and give it to friends and family to bake in their own homes?
Then I won’t have to fight off my husband in the kitchen and other people can enjoy these cookies with minimal effort haha!
I mean, isn’t the smell of baking chocolate chip cookies the most amazing smell?
The idea is simple.
After I make the chocolate chip cookie dough, instead of baking them I package them just like they are packaged in the store.
Little logs!
Supplies
- Ingredients from any cookie recipe of your choosing
- Parchment paper
- Gift wrapping material of your choice
- Twine
- Scissors
Instructions
Step 1.
Begin by removing the prepared cookie dough from the refrigerator and splitting it in half.
One whole batch makes a HUGE log. But half of this recipe makes 2 nice-sized logs.
Step 2.
Then begin rolling the dough into a nice log.
About the size you would find at the store
Step 3.
Next, begin to wrap the parchment paper around the dough.
As you roll the log of cookie dough tuck the edges of the parchment paper around the end.
Like your chipotle burrito haha.
Make sure the parchment paper is long enough that it goes beyond the dough log at least 3-5 inches on each side.
Step 4.
Since I plan on gifting this to people, I then grabbed some festive paper and wrap it over the parchment paper.
I did this using the same technique I used for the parchment paper.
After I finished wrapping it I taped the corners and the edge to ensure it stayed.
Step 5.
The final step is the gift label!
I created this cute and simple “Merry Christmas” label which you can get delivered to your inbox for FREE!
Go to the FREE PRINTABLES section and you’ll find it among some of the other printables I’ve created for you.
To apply the label I punched a hole in the corner and then I took some string, although ribbon would look nice as well, and wrapped it around the cookie dough log, and tied it in a knot.

What size pudding?
Aliya
Hi Rebecca!! 3.9oz is the size. Thank you for pointing this out to me! I’ll be sure to update the recipe! 🙂
Marilyn
These look delicious. Just wanted to check–there’s no salt in them?
Aliya
Marilyn! Thanks so much! We love this recipe! and no…I don’t put salt in them. We have a history of heart issues and therefore we try to limit it when we can. But I’m sure if you added a bit of salt it would only enhance the wonderful flavors! If you try it with salt let me know how it goes. I’d love to know!

Hi Aliya!
This is our favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. The only thing different I do is keep them small and bake for 5-6 minutes.
I like your idea of rolling them into logs and giving as gifts! You could also freeze them and take one out whenever you want without all the mess!
Happy Baking,

Aliya
Susan! I love your idea of freezing them!! Genius! The mess of baking isn’t my favorite haha!! This would let me enjoy more of the positive things about cookies and less of the negatives. Thanks for coming by and sharing your ideas! I’m definitely doing that next time!
