Simple New Year’s Kid-Friendly Charcuterie Board Ideas
I believe the simple things can have the biggest impact, which is why we’re going to do a kid-friendly charcuterie board for New Year’s Eve.
Before we get into this kid-friendly charcuterie board I want to take a minute to thank all the ladies apart of the supper club for inviting me to be a guest with them!
If you’re here from Jen’s grazing buffet wasn’t it gorgeous!
So easy!
Which is my goal when it comes to New Year’s Eve parties.
Also, I wanted to let you know if you’re interested in some tips and tricks for setting and reaching goals for the upcoming year, I’ve shared a few that have been the most helpful for me.
Growing up : New Years Eve
I’m not the most enthusiastic New Year Eve person you’ll ever meet.
I love all that comes with New Years.
The idea of a fresh start, setting new goals, and remembering the year we just finished.
But I’m all about those things during normal daytime hours.
I remember one year my Mom came and woke me up to tell me the ball had dropped.
I’m far more in favor of my sleep than staying up to ring in the New Year.
So it should be no surprise to you that my New Years’ ideas are not all that extravagant.
What we will be doing for New Years this year
I’m definitely not the most minimal person you’ve ever met.
But I’m also not a maximalist either.
Unless we’re talking about living life to the fullest.
Otherwise, I’m all about taking things slower and doing things a little bit simpler.
Library Storytime
Our local library has a “Noon Years Eve Party” scheduled, and we will attend that.
It’s just a fun storytime that is themed around New Year’s.
But it’s during the day, so no late-night and we still get to enjoy the holiday.
Setting Goals
We are big about goal setting and working toward reaching them in our house.
So while we don’t necessarily set New Year’s Resolutions, we do set goals each year.
- Spiritual
- Physical
- Vocations
- Avocational
- Educational
- Emotional
- Family
These are the areas my husband and I try to work in each year.
We aren’t able to do it all.
So each year we pick what we feel needs to be the focus and go from there.
I think I might try doing some goal setting with the girls this year too.
Obviously less involved, but start to process of setting a goal and working hard to reach it.
I feel like so many life lessons can be found within setting a goal and failing to reach it in the allotted time frame, and in reaching it.
Remembering 2021
I can also see us curling up on the couch and looking at pictures and videos of what we did in 2021.
We’ve done it before as we prepare for our adoption.
The girls absolutely LOVE it!
(I talk a little bit more about our adoption in these posts HERE and HERE if you’re interested.)
A kid-friendly charcuterie board
Finally, we will be having a fun and easy dinner!
A kid-friendly charcuterie board with a little bit of everyone’s favorite things!
What to put on a kid-friendly charcuterie board?
When I think of a kid-friendly charcuterie board, I think of the specific kids who will be enjoying it.
Every kid is different, and so are his/her likes and dislikes.
So for our kid-friendly charcuterie board, we have shrimp and cocktail sauce for my girls.
They LOVE shrimp.
We went on vacation this past Spring to Georgia (Read the best story about our 14-hour drive down!!!) and they ate so much shrimp.
My husband and I joked with the girls that they were going to turn into shrimp haha!
We also have grapes and pigs-in-a-blanket for the girls.
Although I’ll be honest, the nurse in me likes the sausages and grapes cut in half before the girls put them in their mouths.
I’m not sure when I’ll stop being so concerned about the choking hazard of these foods, but until then, I’ll be over here cutting them in half haha!
But creating a kid-friendly charcuterie board is really that simple.
What are their favorite things?
Then THAT is what goes on the charcuterie board.
Is a kid-friendly charcuterie board an appetizer?
I’d say yes and no.
Clear as mud right!
We will be enjoying ours as a meal.
But the meal will be made up of multiple appetizer foods.
- pigs-in-a-blanket
- shrimp
- crackers
- meat and cheese rolls
- apples and peanut butter & yogurt dip
- grapes
- pretzels
I feel like the definition of a “meal” vs “appetizer” has more to do with the quantity of the food and less to do with the food itself.
So if you want the charcuterie board to be out and allow the family to graze while you wait for the meal to finish, just make it with less.
But, if you’re like me and want this to be as simple as possible, add a little bit extra of everything and call it a meal of appetizers!
How do you serve brie on a kid-friendly charcuterie board?
I know what you’re thinking.
How can brie even be on a kid-friendly charcuterie board?
Well, a long time ago, in a land far far away…
But seriously, 5 years ago does feel like a lifetime with all those sleepless nights.
When my oldest began eating “big people” food, my husband got sick of eating the same “kid foods” over and over again for dinner.
He stated that if we wanted her to eat the same foods we do then that means we need to start feeding her these foods now.
I thought the idea was absurd but decided to entertain his idea to prove that he was wrong.
I thought she’d learn to eat shrimp, fish, feta & goat cheese, salads, etc. when she got older, not while she was just a baby.
Well, the next night for dinner she ate every piece of the grilled chicken and her salad.
I’m not sure I told my husband he was right.
But it started the cycle of always trying new foods and today our girls have a more eclectic pallet than I do.
So adding brie to their charcuterie board isn’t far-fetched at all.
In fact, my youngest on multiple occasions has asked if I’d just give her the tub of goat cheese instead of sprinkling it on her meal haha!
For this charcuterie board, I decided to use the baked cranberry brie that the girls were so excited to help me with.
That’s it!
That is how simple and amazing a New Years Eve can be.
Yummy food and all!
