How do I start decorating for fall?

To decorate for Fall the first thing I do is put away all the items that are Summer-y.

This is also a great time to give everything a good wipe down.

By doing this you give yourself a blank slate to work with and then you can see where you may want to begin sprinkling in the Fall decor.

Doing it this way is also helpful because Fall decor can actually look really nice if it’s a slow progression.

Add a couple of things at a time and before you know it, it’s October and you are full-blown Fall.

I’m my early Fall entryway post I shared that doing this reduces stress and after doing it last year I think it’s going to be my go-to method for transitioning from Summer to Fall.

The thing I am doing different this year is not adding pumpkins.

Those cute white pumpkins were growing in our garden last year so I had them on hand.

But since we got home from Korea with our youngest daughter in May we weren’t able to plant all the things we wanted to this year.

So no pumpkins for this year’s early Fall inspo!

How do you decorate for fall on a budget?

Decorating for Fall on a budget is very doable.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to save money and still have a cozy and beautiful Fall home.

Early Fall Decor Ideas: Simplify

Of all the times to decorate our homes I think Fall and Christmas are hands down the easiest times to “overdo it”.

When we first got married my husband was slightly disgusted with the amount of Christmas I put up everywhere.

Maybe he was right, maybe it was too much.

Now when I decorate I don’t have as much time because of all the little people running around, but also I have to be strategic because of all those little people.

So now when I decorate I try to be minimal without looking bare.

Over the year’s I’ve learned that the best way to make sure you’re at this magic location is to clean the area out.

Then slowly starting adding items into the space.

After a couple items step back and look at it.

It’s almost a feeling more than it is a science.

Once it feels good I leave it.

Then when pumpkins are for sale at the local farms I can start sprinkling them all around.

Early Fall Decor Ideas: Keep Color Scheme Neutral/Earthy

A neutral and earthy color scheme is the perfect color scheme for early Fall.

It makes it so easy to transition to your full-blown Fall decor color scheme.

Last year I did a plum, copper, and pumpkin theme and this foundation was so easy to build off of.

This year I think I’m going with a mustard, burnt orange, and moss color scheme and I’m so excited about it.

But this earthy simple early Fall decor will go great before I pull all that out.

Early Fall Decor Ideas: Keep it Cozy with Pillows and Throws

I love vintage pillow covers, especially for Fall.

They add so much texture and character.

If you’re able to find some for reasonable prices like I found these then it’s even better!

I’ve kept them neutral for my early Fall decor, but I’m so excited to pull out my other pillow covers for when I’m ready to go all in with the Fall decor.

Early Fall Decor Ideas: Pumpkins; Take ’em or Leave ’em

I’m sure this will be a point that makes everyone happy.

Early Fall can have neutral pumpkins.

So if your a pumpkin person HURRAY!!!

Pull those pumpkins out!

Early Fall can have no pumpkins.

So if you’re more into apples and sunflowers then woo hoo!!

No pumpkins until October for you haha!

But seriously, can someone explain the controversy to me?

I have always been so confused by the battle for and against pumpkins.

These poor little crops are just ready for harvest when their ready for harvest haha

Early Fall Decor Ideas: Add Elements from Nature

I’ve saved the best for last.

This is always, without a doubt my favorite way to decorate my home.

I absolutely love wondering around clipping little bits of nature and bringing them in.

My oldest helped me walk along the ditches on our country road and get these queen annes lace stems.

If I’m honest that is probably why I like it so much.

I’m either getting some quality alone time in nature, where I can find so much peace, or I’m getting special time with one of my girls.

Either way, the time spent doing it is always worth it.

This year I decided to go cut my favorite wild flower.

Queen Annes Lace.

It isn’t a stately bloom.

Infact the only thing stately about them in their abondance along the ditches and fields.

But they are my favorite.

Probably because when I see them I think of my Mom.

I remember talking to my Mom about queen annes lace when I was a little girl, and that single memory is so sweet to me that this flower is now one that I love the most.

It’s perfect for your early Fall decor regardless of my sentimental attatchement though.

They are simple, neutral, and earthy.

I hope that these tips helped you with your early Fall decor!
