Earthy Fall Kitchen Decor Ideas that Are Simple & Cheap
Bring the beauty of fall into your kitchen by adding earthy Fall kitchen decor with these simple and natural decor ideas.
I love to decorate with earthy tones all year long.
It fits with the European Farmhouse style that I like so much.
Honestly, it also helps me cut down on the amount of home decor that I keep stored in totes that are season-specific. (Expect Christmas, of course, haha!)
By using earth tone home decor all year long I’m also about to reduce the amount of money that I spend on my decor.
So less “stuff” and less money.
Couldn’t be better!
If you’d like to watch a video of me transitioning our kitchen from Summer to Fall you can do that HERE on YouTube.
I’m so excited to share all of the ideas I’ve come up with, but before we jump in, I want to thank Kelly with The Tattered Pew for organizing this home tour.
This week I’m joining 25 other ladies sharing Fall decor inspiration all week.
If you’re here from Jen with Midwest Life and Style thank you so much for coming by.
The way she decorated her entryway for Fall is absolutely stunning!
Okay, let’s get into the ways that I was able to decorate our earth tone Fall kitchen on a budget.
What is earthy home decor?
When I think of earthy or earth tone home decor I think of nature.
The really cool thing about earth tone fall decor is that you can pick whatever colors you want to emphasis.
The options are endless!
But the most commonly used colors are those that evoke a calm and peaceful feeling.
A lot of muted colors, but deep colors too.
Caramels, honeys, creams, browns, sage green, forest green, mauve, black…there are so many options.
The best part of decorating with these colors is that they are organically found.
So you can use organic elements and they will naturally fit in.
Examples of organic elements that I use are wood, stone, or terracotta, with a few seasonal elements like pumpkins, gourds, leaves, branches, pinecones, acorns, etc.
Then I use candles to complete the warm and inviting atmosphere with the smells of Fall.
Not necessary, but such a sweet addition.
How to decorate simply for Fall?
My number one tip for decorating simply for Fall is to think about everyday items.
When I decorate any room in my house I always think about the way that space functions for our family and what we need in there based on that.
Then over time, I find beautiful pieces that fill those needs.
In our kitchen, I have collected crock bowls that are both beautiful on display, but also function to proof my sourdough.
I also like to burn candles in the Fall so I have found candlestick holders that I love to put the handles in.
By decorating my house with beautiful everyday and functional items I am able to create a beautiful and simple foundation for my simple fall decor.
After I have the everyday items for each room I like to add a few things that are just decor.
But I keep it to a minimum.
After I think I have finished decorating a certain space I step back and ALMOST always remove 1 or 2 things haha!
Why does over-decorating come so easily?!
What are Easy Cheap Fall Decorations?
The biggest thing here is going to be foraging for natural fall decor.
Hands down that is the most fun and thrifty way to decorate your home with earth tones for Fall.
A few things I like to look for, for natural fall kitchen decor:
- pinecones
- branches of leaves
- wild flowers (golden rod, queen annes lace, cone flowers, etc.)
- dried flowers/grasses
- different nuts from trees (walnuts, buckeyes, acorns, etc.)
- gourds/squash/pumpkins/apples/pears (from your garden or a local farm)
Another thrifty Fall decorating idea is to DIY decor emphasizing earth tones.
By doing DIY projects you can make your space cozy and warm and spend less money.
- sweater pumpkins
- fabric pumpkins
- air dry clay pumpkins
- Fall wreaths (here are a couple of options I’ve made Idea 1 | Idea 2 | Idea 3)
- Make an essential oil air freshener
If you want to spend a little money, then I recommend this:
- find earth tone tea towels
- shopping at thrift stores (they have seasonal decor that you could flip if necessary)
- artwork
- beautiful everyday items
- crocks (they are beautiful all year long, but I find them especially cozy)
- pillow covers
- candlestick holders
- shallow bowls (for a collection of fall items)
Our Earthy Fall Kitchen Decor
Earthy artwork
This is the only thing that I bought specifically for Fall decor this year.
Now that being said, I do like it so much that you might see it even after Fall.
But that’s the thing about earth tone home decor.
It can easily slip into all the seasons.
It’s a beautiful & cozy fall kitchen decor piece.
I love the two people walking on the path together.
For me, the artwork is far more than the coziness and warmth it brings to the space.
It’s the memories and feelings that it evokes inside of me.
For this specific print, I ordered it from Mpix.
- I downloaded prints from the National Gallery of Art
- Go to MPIX.com > Prints > New Giclee Prints
- Upload your art
- Select Fine Art Photographic
- Change Mount/Frame to ‘Matboard’ for framing without glass
- Add art to your cart and place your order
Some of the features I selected added a little bit of money to the total cost, but when my husband got home and looked at them he couldn’t tell if they were prints or actually paintings ( I ordered one for the living room too, that I’ll share in a couple weeks).
Earthy fall kitchen decor: tea towels
I bought these tea towels three years ago and they fit perfectly still this year.
Could I go buy different tea towels for our natural Fall kitchen decor?
Sure.
But I don’t need too because I chose an earth tone color that will work every year.
Now, if I could go back in time and buy something a little more neutral I think I might.
Maybe one that is cream with honey stripes, instead of solid honey.
But there is nothing wrong with these, so I’ll keep using them.
Earthy fall kitchen decor: metals
My favorite earth tone metal will probably always be copper.
But that isn’t the only color that works as cozy fall kitchen decor.
Black and brass are also beautiful metal options.
If you want a lighter metal I’ve used rustic galvanized metal before too.
But I do like the cozy feeling the darker and warmer colors have so I decided to put the galvanized metal away for Fall.
Earthy fall kitchen decor: dried flowers
This is a really great way to have budget friendly Fall decor.
Dried flowers have natural colors that fall into the color scheme organically.
If you are willing to go forge you can get them for free.
Some flowers that have dried well for me are:
hydrangeas, grasses, thistle, daisies, lavender, tree branches with leaves (hair spray the leaves to the branches)
The only downside to dried flowers for simple fall decor is storage.
I didn’t store mine in the tote with my silk greenery.
I put them on top of the tote and put the tote under a shelf to reduce the dust.
I was nervous that I would break them when I rummaged through the greenery tote throughout the year.
Earthy fall kitchen decor: dried herbs
This is one of the most practical and beautiful ways to use the herbs from our garden.
I did this last year with the basil, rosemary, and oregano and all of them were more delicious than any I’ve ever bought at the store.
I’m sure in part it tasted better because I planted the herbs, cared for them, and then harvested them haha!
But part of me also thinks it was just the freshness.
Not to mention having all the harvested herbs drying in the kitchen smells WONDERFUL!!
Earthy fall kitchen decor: seasonal items
As I mentioned in my post about decorating with pumpkins a few weeks ago, I know not everyone wants to decorate with pumpkins.
But there are so many other seasonal items to decorate with if you don’t like pumpkins.
Gourds, pinecones, leaves, branches, acorns, etc.
One of my favorites is dried gourds.
I found a few different gourds a couple years ago and now I’m trying to increase my collection to include apple gourds.
But the ones that are already dried that I’ve found are too expensive for me.
(I found a few on Etsy if you’re interested in some for this year’s fall decor and don’t know where to look.)
I think I’m just going to wait and grow and dry them myself haha!
Earthy fall kitchen decor: everyday items
I mentioned my crock bowls.
They are some of my favorite pieces in our kitchen.
But as far as earth tone everyday items go, I also have wooden breadboards and black mugs.
I really like adding darker colors in the Fall to enhance the cozy feeling but also because it adds a pop of contrast.
I don’t think you need to overdo it on the darker colors, but if you like earthy fall kitchen decor then I think you would like to have a few pops of those darker colors.
Earthy fall kitchen decor: produce
Decorating with produce is such a thrifty way to decorate.
Some of my favorite produce options for the Fall are:
- pumpkin
- apple
- pear
- fig
- eggplant
- grape
The really fun thing about decorating with produce for simple fall decor is that you can swap them out each week as the season progresses.
Start with apples and then work your way to pumpkins.
Well, that’s all I have for my earthy fall kitchen decor ideas, so make sure you head over to see Renae’s neutral Fall decor.
She’s next up on this hop and never disappoints!
