Before we get to all the tips I wanted to say a quick thank you to Kelly with Tattered Pew for putting this hop of 30 Spring Home Tours together.

She is so talented and if you’ve never stopped by her home you want to make sure that you do.

One of the most genuine and beautiful souls I’ve ever met.

Also, if you’re here from Jen’s casual Spring home thanks so much for stopping by!

Wasn’t her home beautiful.

I seriously love all the things she does.

You might be wondering what I mean by “European cottage”.

If so you can read this post.

I share some of my favorite parts of the European farmhouse style and kind of try to help you understand why it’s one of my favorite styles that inspires my home decor choices.

If you live in a place like Ohio then Spring is one of those times of year that is half Spring and half winter haha!

As I’ve sat down to type this up it has gone from gloomy and snowing to deservingly sunny.

Not to mention in 2 days it’s supposed to be in the 50’s!

Don’t get me wrong, I love the warm days and count them as a blessing.

But while I’m waiting for it to be consistently warm outside I decided to start decorating the inside to feel fresh and light.

Thrifty Tips for Spring Decorating

  • Shop your home. Sometimes you can transform the look of your home by flipping items from room to room
  • Decorate with functional everyday items
  • Shop thrift stores or second-hand (Garage sale season is coming!!)
  • Simplify; Less can be so much more
  • DIY Spring Wreath
  • Buy pillow covers instead of new pillows
  • Start seeds indoors and grow herbs for eating and decor
  • Simple spring flower arrangements

Budget Spring Decor Ideas in our Kitchen: Baskets

This is probably my favorite Spring/Summer decor item.

I have a basket problem.

Soo many baskets.

But, the warmth that a basket brings just by its natural color is perfect for Spring.

Also, it lends itself to the idea of harvesting living things from the garden.

Whether is flowers, fruit, or veggies, a basket is a natural Spring piece.

The basket hanging on our pot rack is the basket the girls grab in the summer when the garden is in full swing.

I absolutely love it!

Budget Spring Decor Ideas in our Kitchen: Flowers

In March I can’t decorate with many forged stems yet.

They are busting up through the dirt, but they are weeks away from blooming.

I do really like these real touch tulips though.

I got them on Amazon last year and they have held up so well.

That being said this year I’m so excited to get back to cutting flowers from our garden and bringing them into the house for decor.

Last year was kind of a crazy year.

For those of you who are new here and don’t know, we adopted a sweet little girl last Summer, and because of that, we tried to focus most of our energy on her and less on the garden.

Instead of a big garden, we did a little herb garden on the patio.

Speaking of which, she makes a guest appearance in this YouTube video!! (you guys know I’m very strategic about which way I point the camera when it comes to my babies’ faces)

Anyway, in the video, she is talking which is AMAZING!!

I should probably share an update with you guys now that we’re coming up on 1 year.

Real Flowers

If you live somewhere warmer than Ohio in March then I absolutely recommend to shop your yard.

So much beauty can be found outside and it’s FREE!

Another option is to plant some seeds.

We have tomatoes, peppers, and herbs growing in our basement right now.

I’m actually going to be transplanting the herbs soon and bringing them upstairs so I can enjoy them daily.

Budget Spring Decor Ideas in our Kitchen: Clear Vases

This is something I like to do for Spring.

I think of Spring as the season to begin taking our layers off, and lightning things up.

For home decor that means that I start removing my dark/black vases and replacing them with clear.

The other thing I like about clear vases during Spring is they seem to take up less “visual space”.

When you look at a black vase it is taking up visual room in what your looking at.

But a clear vase does that less, which goes along with making things “lighter”.

Budget Spring Decor Ideas in our Kitchen: White Pitchers

I also love white pitchers for the same reason.

They are lighter and brighter.

A beautiful Spring addition to any room, but i especially love them in the kitchen and dining room.

I also feel like they are pretty cheap.

I found this one at a garage sale a couple of years ago, and after him-hawing around about whether I wanted it or not the lady ended up selling it to me for less than half what she had on the sticker.

Budget Spring Decor Ideas in our Kitchen: Straw Hats

I’ve been seeing more and more straw hats on the wall for decor, and I LOVE them!

I’ve always used my cute Summer hat as decor in the entryway, but I never thought of just hanging it up on the wall.

With garage sale and flea market season on the way, I’m excited to look for straw hats to add to this wall in the dining room/eat-in-kitchen area.

Not to mention they are perfect when warmer days come and the sun is shining more and more.

A breezy way to keep the sun out of my face while working in the garden.

Budget Spring Decor Ideas in our Kitchen: Lighter Linens

I love using tea towels and dish towels to decorate the kitchen.

They are practical and beautiful.

The towels that I have, I purchased on Amazon and they are really nice.

They are thick enough to dry an entire sink of dishes and beautiful enough to hang on the peg rack.

Budget Spring Decor Ideas in our Kitchen: Less is More

My final tip for Spring decor in the kitchen is to remember less is more.

Last year I almost always had a vase or pitcher of flowers on the counter to the right of the window.

But as I’ve been doing more and more sourdough bread making (it’s a 2023 goal to purchase zero bread products at the grocery store) I’ve noticed the vase was always being moved.

So I just slide it over on the counter and now I have more counter space to work with.

It’s something I’m learning to do better as time passes.
