A Beautiful Christmas Breakfast Nook with Copper & Green

Sometimes it’s the most simple touches that make a room beautiful, and that’s what happened when I decorated our Christmas breakfast nook.

Christmas Breakfast Nook : Evergreens

One of the staples for Christmas decor is evergreens, in any of its forms.

Wreaths. Swags. Garlands. Trees.

They come in all shapes and sizes and the truth is, there really isn’t a right or wrong option.

For instance, I hung two wreaths in the windows this year.

But if you wanted to use garland over the window that would be a great option too.

In fact, I feel like in most cases the two are interchangeable and it all just depends on what you want for that particular season.

Wreaths

I chose to do wreaths in the windows because I’ve never done it before.

I usually hang garland over windows and have always loved it.

But there is something simple and timeless about a wreath hanging in the window.

The best part of these two wreaths is that one of them was first a garland.

Yup!

I didn’t have two wreaths but knew I wanted two.

But, because I had 1 garland piece left I knew I could turn it into a wreath.

When I make any DIY wreaths I usually use grapevine or embroidery hoops for the base.

So I took an embroidery hoop I had lying around and attached the garland to it with floral wire.

That’s it!

Wreath!

I wanted the wreaths to be fuller since the garland I was using was old and falling apart.

So I went over to the neighbors’ yard waste pile and grabbed some evergreen branches to beef them up.

Then I attached a bow and called it done!

Simple.

Yet it still makes a statement.

Swag

Over on the DIY pot rack, I added a pretty evergreen swag from a stem that I had from last year.

I attached the two pieces end-to-end with floral wire, and then I folded them in half.

Again I added ribbon and called it done!

Honestly, I think this is my favorite of all the evergreen pieces in our dining room this year.

Something about its simplicity just speaks to me.

The ribbon was actually a ribbon I got when I bought some tea towels.

This is the ribbon that was wrapped around the bundle.

Instead of throwing it away, I decided to keep it.

I’m so glad I did!

Stems

These are the stems I talked about in our living room and entryway home tour.

I grabbed these stems while we went to cut down our Christmas tree this year.

I was nervous about asking if I could take home the scraps, but they were MORE THAN HAPPY for me to take them.

When I saw that they had white pine scraps in the pile I knew that’s what I wanted!

The week before we picked out our tree I was walking back to the car from picking my daughter up from nature school and I found these white pine cones.

I couldn’t help myself.

I threw a bag full in the car and brought them home.

Pretty perfect huh?!

I added them to an apple crate that I have and that I also just laid them down on the center of the table.

So far these needles have been really nice to work with.

They haven’t fallen off and made a mess of everything!!

Christmas Breakfast Nook : Copper Pots & Pans

You guys…

I’m working on a post about this space and I’m planning on sharing it at the beginning of the year.

This little corner of copper pots and pans has been such a crazy ride.

The gist of it is, I made this design decision without any real-life examples that were like it.

Most people hang their pots and pans in front of the backsplash in their kitchen above their stove.

But I can’t do that.

At least not without some intensive kitchen remodeling. (Which we dream of doing someday, but not today.)

So this idea came to me.

At first, I got really great feedback about this idea.

But as this little corner spread to more and more eyes, the negative feedback started rolling in.

Before I knew it I was questioning this design decision that I loved so much.

But recently, something really wonderful happened to me concerning this corner and I seriously CAN’T WAIT TO SHARE IT WITH YOU!!!

Okay, back to the copper decor in the Christmas breakfast nook.

I have the copper pots and pans that MOST people love so much, and I also added a vintage copper scoop.

My favorite vintage shop in town has a little corner dedicated to copper.

Every time I go visit her, I head to that corner and to see if she has any new goodies.

I saw this scoop and decided I wanted to take it home.

Christmas Breakfast Nook : Ribbons

Have I told you yet that I’m obsessed with ribbon at Christmas time?

I’ve added it to every corner of our home!

The stairs, the basement, and the living room and entryway!

It’s such a simple way to say Christmas without screaming it.

The best thing is that you can get it in all the colors!

Whatever you want your Christmas theme to be each year you can easily swap out the colors.

For the Christmas breakfast nook, I decided to go with sage green and white for the ribbon.

Earthy Christmas decor

They are softer and calmer.

In our dining room, I need more calm as we try to eat breakfast and get out the door on time each day haha!

Next week I’m going to share an amazing appetizer for a family-friendly New Years’ EVE party.

I can’t wait to share it with you!

The girls are so pumped about it which makes it so much better!
