An Open Heart Message: Writing the Girls a Note
Recently, I was struck with this crazy thought.
Why don’t I listen and believe the words and messages I want my girls to believe about themselves?
I’m always giving them encouragement that they can do and be anything. However, for some reason, I don’t always believe it’s true for myself. Until a couple of weeks ago, this had never occurred to me.
Where I Learned to Write Notes
I am big on quotes and little notes. I’m the one who packs your lunch and adds a note for you to find while you are eating. I learned this from my Mom.
She is the queen at leaving notes everywhere. She left them all over the house. Taped on the bathroom mirror in the morning, lunchboxes for the afternoon, inside kitchen cabinets for whenever you open the cabinet door, and in our luggage for when we traveled without her.
Although I’m not as good at this as she is, I value leaving and giving little messages and notes to the people in my home.
The Letter Board
So when my sister offered me a letter board for the girls’ new room, I was all about it! It was perfect!! A place for me to leave and change notes for the girls whenever I want to.
I have so many things I want my girls to hear, know and believe about themselves. When I look at them and I see mountain movers and ripple makers. I believe they are capable of anything they set their minds to.
To help them know these truths about themselves I go about my days trying to send these little messages to them. I desire so passionately that my girls never doubt who they are or what they can become.
The Out of Nowhere Thought
But, suddenly! Like a ton of bricks, I was hit with this crazy notion. I make sure I’m instilling these thoughts and beliefs in them as if those same thoughts and beliefs are somehow not true for me.
Example: I just left the girls a message on the new letter board that said “Your worth is immeasurable”.
I know this is true for them. In fact, if anyone tried to suggest otherwise I’d happily set them straight. In the nicest momma bear way of course!
Now, when I think about this message for myself, I’m not half as passionate about its truthfulness. If the world wanted to tell me that there is a limit to my worth, I’d happily accept.
Why? Why is it that I could challenge with such passion and fierceness the value and worth of my babies, yet I’d not even stand up and fight to defend my own value?
I decided that I need to start seeing myself the way the Father sees me. It’ll benefit me, but it’ll also benefit those little eyes watching me. Maybe I should start by leaving myself little notes everywhere as a reminder?
Over on the Free Printables page, I added 15 notes that I want my girls to believe about themselves. I’m going to start using them as little reminders for myself too. Head over there and get them for yourself!
Pin for later!
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope that you were encouraged to start seeing yourself with the value and worth that you truly have. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. It simply isn’t true!
