Simple Farmhouse Kitchen Christmas Decor

Kitchen Christmas decor is so much fun for me! I love adding little touches here and there to create a magical space to do all the things! I’m honored you stopped by to see our kitchen Christmas decor.

Of all the rooms in our home, the kitchen is the workhorse. I’m sure is true of your home too. That being the case, each year I want the kitchen Christmas décor to create a magical ambiance that invites me to enjoy my time spent there. As opposed to dreading the dishes that have piled up since breakfast. (When there is snow outside, the dishes have to take a back seat so memories can be made!)

I’ve said this a million times, and I’ll say it a million more, when I agreed to have children I didn’t realize I was agreeing to feed them breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, and yet again, another SNACK. Not to mention all the cleaning that comes with all that food. During Christmas, I really need to make sure the kitchen is a space that draws me in. Otherwise, these babies will be eating off the floor instead of clean dishes.

Kitchen Christmas Decor: Choose a Theme

When I’m getting ready to decorate for Christmas, I try to nail down a “theme” that I’m aiming for that year. This year, I decided I wanted the Christmas décor to be a mixture of a traditional Christmas with natural elements and pops of red.

After you know your theme you can begin adding little bits of it here and there and before you know it, your kitchen is perfectly dressed for Christmas and creating that inspiring feeling that draws us in.

Greenery

I used 2 different types of greenery in the kitchen: garland and clippings.

Garland

Ever since we moved into this house, I’ve done asymmetrical garland over this window. I keep thinking one of these days I’ll put a wreath in the window, but every year I stick with the garland. There’s always next year! (Any Browns fans with me?)

I love the way the garland looks over this window. Especially the asymmetrical style. By doing it this way I am intentionally making it imperfect. And if you remember my post on European Farmhouse style you know how much I love imperfect décor. It is inviting and welcoming.

Clippings/Stems

The next way I added greenery to this space was through clippings. I simply placed them on the open shelves, and in the antique crock, we received for our wedding. I tried to keep this asymmetrical yet balanced. When I first started decorating the kitchen for Christmas, I didn’t have many clippings and it just didn’t feel like Christmas. So, I added a few more clippings here and there and I’m much happier with the way it turned out.

In many ways, I try to be minimal, but for some reason, my natural inclination for Christmas is to go big! My husband has “helped” me tone it down a bit over the years, but honestly, I think I’m winning because he was listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving this year!

Festive Textiles

Now that the kitchen is covered in greenery from the garland and clippings, I decided to add pops of red with textiles for the kitchen. If you remember from my home tour post, I picked these up from Rustik Market. I love the red and white of these textiles. They help create a balanced look with all the green that is going on in the kitchen.

Mixed Metals

This is one of my favorite aspects of the décor in the kitchen and the dining room all year long. COPPER!! GALVANIZED!! Please give me more! I found all these awesome copper pieces at this wonderful local vintage shop that just recently opened down the street from me. (Yes, the owner and I are now best friends and No, I don’t shop there too often. haha!)

The galvanized cookie cutters are from another vintage shop here in town. I purchased them because I remember using these type of cookie cutters at Christmas when I was little in my grammy’s kitchen. We would bake Christmas sugar cookies and I am so fond of those memories. I intentionally added them to the kitchen Christmas décor so I would be reminded of these memories every time I walked into the kitchen.

Christmas ornaments inside a vintage bowl

You probably noticed all the Christmas ornaments I have sprinkled all over the kitchen too. I picked these up on Amazon and so far I adore them! They are shatterproof and look gorgeous! Unfortunately, Amazon sold out of the exact ornaments that I selected, I was going to buy a second set because I like them so much. But I did some searching and found a couple other options that I think will be perfect!

Twinkle Lights

Christmas Decor

I’ve been noticing this new trend with twinkle lights, and I’m gonna be honest: I LOVE it! Simple drape a string of twinkle lights around a bowl, or in the bowl and cascading out. It’s very casual and that fits me and my style so much! If you feel like your kitchen needs a little twinkle but you don’t know where to add it, try something as simple as thing. Regardless of how they are displayed they always add magic to the room.

Well, that’s all I’ve got for you for my kitchen Christmas decor. But if you missed it I was a part of a wonderful home tour a couple of weeks ago so go check it out! In that post, I walked you from the entryway, through the living room, and into the dining room. I also shared a post on our Classic Christmas finished basement. So much Christmas fun going on over here!
