How to Hang  Garland on the Stairs

Arrow

Click the link below to see how I attached the garland to the railing without damaging it. Also, you'll never believe how cheap this method is!

Gather Supplies

Grab your garland, plastic twist ties, ribbon, ornaments, and pinecones of your choice. Don't forget the twinkle lights!

Step 1

Measure the length of the railing that you want to cover in the garland. If you want swoops make sure your garland is longer than the railing.

Step 2

Begin attaching the garland at the top of the railing. I did this because If I was going to have excess I wanted it to pool at the bottom.

Step 3

There are many options for attaching garland to stairs, but the cheapest damage-free way is with plastic green twist ties found in the garden center at your Home Improvement Store.

Step 4

Do this at every place you want the garland to swoop until you reach the end of the stairs. I had to use 2 sections of 6' garland to complete this job.

Step 5

Now that the garland is hanging on the stairs I took some ribbon and tied a bow around the banister to hide the green twist tie.

Step 6

Finally, add all the different Christmas ornaments, berries, or pinecones you want for your Christmas decor this year!

Over on the blog I shared more details about the simple and thrifty way I make it look full and effortless, and why I use plan garland as my base. Click the link below to check it all out!
