This is what the fireplace looked like when we moved in. It wasn't terrible, and it had some great qualities. But we wanted a change.
Before I began the project I found a few different fireplaces that were inspiring and decided what the commonalities were.
I wanted the stone to be below the mantel. The corner fireplace is a slant at the ceiling and I didn't like the way the stone looked slanted.
I didn't like the "orange" that the old stone pulled. Instead of replacing the stone since it was real stone I just gave it a limewash refresh.
After the stone was limewashed we added drywall above it to prepare it for the mantel. It was getting closer to looking the way we envisioned.
Next was getting the facebook marketplace mantel ready to be installed above the stone on the fireplace. Clean & cut.
After the barn beam was ready we placed the brackets on the wall into the studs. We chose to use industrial pipes but would use a mantel bracket next time.
Then we drilled holes in the back of the barn beam to slide it onto the brackets. We love the way it turned out!
