Creating A Simple and Beautiful Table Setting
Creating a beautiful table setting using dishes and glassware that belonged to my great grandmothers was special. As the girls and I put the dishes on the table I was able to see the past, present, and future at the same time. Last week I shared a little about preparing for our adoption fundraiser garage sale. Before the garage sale, Mom had me come over and go through all the stuff she was donating. I ended up taking home 4 boxes of things that belonged to my great grandmother’s years ago. After I got everything home, I decided I wanted to create a beautiful and simple table setting using at…

Backyard Picnic – Working with What You’ve Got
Since COVID-19 started we have been doing project after project. Its really been non-stop around here. The thing is, as much as we incorporate the girls, they just don’t wake up and think about how fun it’s going to be to paint the walls, sand a bookcase or replace cabinets with open shelves. So I decided I wanted to do something special for them. I wanted them to know how much I loved and appreciated them. I thought a fun way to do that was to have a fun backyard picnic for dinner. Initially, I thought that I couldn’t do it because the garden wasn’t in full bloom. Everything was…

Beautiful Raw Wood Finish | Great-Grandpas Bookcase
We recently completed a raw wood finish bookcase makeover and I absolutely love the look and feel of the bookcase now that it’s finished. Somehow I ended up with a bookcase my great-grandpa built. I don’t know how this happened, but I’m glad it did. I loved the bookcase because my great-grandpa built it, but I wanted to refinish it to match my home decor style. It was originally a warm-red color. I started seeing raw wood furniture around and thought that would match the rest of my decor. So the girls and I began the process of giving the bookcase a raw wood makeover! Preparing for the raw wood…

Cottage Garden (Part 3) – Water, Weed, and Wait
Hey guys! This week is an update on how the cottage garden is going. Its undergone some big changes, but it seems to be taking them like a champ! I love the garden so much, but man! It’s hard work! Everything we planned for this year we finally planted!! Hurray!! Also, I’m loving the new layout! Slowly it’s turning into the cottage garden I’ve been dreaming about! It’s not perfect, but it’s 100 times better than the big 20×40 rectangle we had before. Let me explain why I love the many little triangles to the big rectangle. Weeding The Plots The triangles are 8x8x8. So they aren’t huge. But this…

My Unexpected Discovery on My Design Style Journey
Have you ever been on a journey to discover your design style? You knew once you figure out that one magical word, all your designing decisions would be simple. But once you started down the many paths you came up empty-handed. You still love Modern-Minimal-French-Boho-Coastal-Rustic-Traditional-Farmhouse haha. Okay that was a bit much, but you get what I’m saying, right? It’s so hard if not impossible to figure out your one-word style name. This journey taught me about my design style, but I learned a great deal more about acceptance and how to accept myself. When I started I knew I loved vintage, farmhouse, heirloom, simple/neutral. What I learned by digging…

Ways to Use a Dutch Tulip Tray for Decor in the Home
A few weeks ago my husband and I built a dutch tulip tray. I’ve been wanting one for a while now and decided instead of buying one, I’d build one. I used some wood from the scrap pile. This made the scrap pile smaller and it was free! My husband and I were both winning!! Since we built it, I’ve had it in a few different places, and knowing me, it probably won’t stay where it is now for long haha. Anyway, since I’ve given this tray multiple roles in this house, I thought I’d share a few to help you see how one piece of decor can be purposed…

We Are Putting Chickens in the Garden
Remember the garden post a few weeks ago when I told you our garden layout was changing? Well, this is why! We are going to put our chicken coop in the garden! I’m so excited I can hardly contain it! Have I told you guys recently that I’m in love with the garden?! Adding chickens to the garden makes it even better! It makes perfect sense for us! I want the garden to be a one-stop-shop for all the things. Adding chickens to this will further this one-stop-shop idea. I’m just a few steps away from eggs, peppers, tomatoes, onions, and a bunch of beautiful flowers. All I have to…

Barn Finds – How to Style Vintage Glass Bottles
I love going to flea markets, antique stores, and barns to find treasures to bring home. My husband’s family has an old farm with a couple barns and I love “shopping” there! Before the quarantine, we visited Gramma and Pap and I was able to go “shopping”. I’ve been through these barns so many times you’d think I couldn’t find anything else to bring home. But every time I go – I find something! This time I found a box of vintage glass bottles covered in dust and dirt. I didn’t get a good look at them while we were in the barn (I had a couple screaming children with…

My Journey Toward Creativity – A Mothers Day Tribute
This week’s post is different from what I typically write. Today I want to share with you something a little more personal. My goal is to help you learn a bit more about who I am by giving you a glimpse into my journey toward creativity. My Grammy When I was a little girl my Grammy would babysit my sister and me before and after school. I grew very close to her. In many ways, I’ve turned out the way I have because of her. She instilled in me beliefs about people, animals, nature, and God that I still carry with me today. She and I are very similar because…
