Raw Wood Finish DIY

Open Doors Open Hearts

Let’s get started!

We completed a raw wood finish makeover and I absolutely love the look and feel now. If you're considering a raw wood finish I recommend it! Let's get started!

BEFORE This is what the bookcase looked like before we completed the raw wood finish makeover. Dated and needing love.

This bookcase was wobbly, so we took it apart and started sanding it, hoping we didn't need to use stripper.

We ended up needing to use stripper with this particular piece. Of all the strippers I've used my favorite so far has been Citristrip.  The stripper did a good job!

Next I pulled out the belt sander to get the wood a little more "raw wood" looking, and to finish cleaning it up after the stripper

After the wood looked the way I wanted, I sealed it with wax. This isn't a high-traffic piece, so wax will protect it while keeping the raw wood finish look.

Then we reassembled the bookcase. We added 90 degree angle corner brackets because I decided to take the back out. But you could add a piece of bead board in the back to help stabilize the bookcase too.

We loved the raw wood finish look on the bookcase so much that we decided to replicate the process for this DIY side table we built.
