Intentional Homemaking | How to Create a Beautiful Home
Over the years I’ve learned that having a beautiful home is less about trendy aesthetics and more about consistent intentional homemaking.

Why home making is important?
Before we dive into all the amazing tips that I’ve gathered for you on this topic, I wanted to share a bit of why intentional homemaking is so important.
The things that happen within the walls of our homes have lasting ripple effects that will go beyond us.
Earlier this week we had to say goodbye to our first fur baby; the fur baby who transformed us from just a married couple to a small family.
Losing her has opened my eyes to see that the life my husband and I are building will eventually wither and fade.
But, that’s not the only thing I’ve realized.
I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, for any of my family.
But I do know, that as a homemaker, I get to have an impact that will outlive me.
So that is why intentional homemaking is such an important thing.
The choices we make within the walls of our homes can either have positive or negative lasting impacts.
So it’s very important to create a beautiful home, but that beauty is not the visual beauty so much as it is the feelings and emotions that home elicits for those who live there.
Grace for Intentional Homemaking
With that said, I want to make it perfectly clear that leaving positive impacts is NOT done by perfect people.
Let me say that one more time: Perfect people don’t leave positive impacts.
There is no such thing as a perfect person, mom, homemaker, housewife, etc..
That person doesn’t exist.
The perfect homemaker is the homemaker doing her best.
The one who is intentional with the home she is creating.
Now lets get into some of these really amazing tips and inspiration for creating an intentional home!
Intentional Homemaking | With Robyn’s French Nest
Robyn always shares really great ideas for creating an intentional home.
But in this specific post, the thing that struck me the most was when she talks about the different seasons of life.
Not every decision we make works for every season we find ourselves in.
What worked when our kiddos were babies might not work anymore as they transition to toddlerhood and all the way until they are teenagers.
She also talks about how the homemaker is a gatekeeper.
A gatekeeper allows some things to enter her home and other things she doesn’t allow.
This isn’t a new concept or idea, but the way she presented it has me looking at it from a new angle.
I find this to be such a great aspect of homemaking and a part of the job that I often forget.
Make sure you head over to her post to get all the other great ideas she shared.
Intentional Homemaking | With The Inspired Room
This post by Melissa about intentional homemaking is brilliant!
I read it and then read it again!
Not to mention all the notes that I took!
But my favorite thing she shared was this quote.
An intentional home is about discerning what matters most to you so you can let go of what doesn’t.
Melissa @theinspiredroom
It’s impossible to do it all.
But, once we realize what we value most and what has the most meaning we can begin to take the necessary steps toward those goals.
And at the same time, we can let go of those things are don’t matter so much.
When we combine this tip with Robyn’s it also means you have the grace to change your mind and the direction your family is heading as more and more time passes.
Like I said, BRILLIANT!
Being a wonderful homemaker has less to do with a specific formula that results in the sameness of all homemakers.
Being a wonderful homemaker is reflecting on you and your family, and then putting into practice those things that matter most.
Go check out her post on intentional homemaking, you are going to love everything she talks about.
Oh, and check out her new book!

Intentional Homemaking | With She Gave It A Go
Brendt talks about finding pleasure in the regular repetitive acts of homemaking in such an easy to remember way in this post.
She suggests that you use your 5 senses to remember these tips.
Sight. Smell. Taste. Sound. Touch.
My favorite tip she shares is for touch.
She talks about starting the day off with a hug for everyone in the home.
I’m such a toucher.
I don’t have a bubble or personal space.
Never have.
But if I’m being honest I’ve been slacking in this department lately.
I’m tired often after a night of waking up and helping our daughter get back to sleep.
(For more on our adoption story you can check out these posts.)
–When we found out we were having another girl
–What I learned while we were in Korea
–Grace for our first few days home
So when the big girls wake up and come walking down the hallway my usual morning routine of hugs hasn’t been happening.
But the thing is, the way Brendt presents these ideas I don’t feel judged or less than.
I just feel encouraged to pick up the baton and keep running.

Intentional Homemaking | With The Ponds Farmhouse
Talk about practical tips and ideas!
In this post Rachel shares some really practical ideas for choosing the right home for you and your family.
The thing she talks about that really stuck out to me is the importance of a list.
A physical list of what matters and what you must have in a home.
This is something we did when we bought our first home and our second home.
It was invaluable!
Saved us from putting an offer in on a house that we wouldn’t have loved.
Make sure you head over to her post and check out the rest of her steps to make sure you have the right home for you!
Intentional Homemaking | A Backyard Picnic
The last post I want to share with you is the mother-daughter picnic I put together last week.
This is just one example of how I try to be an intentional homemaker.
It doesn’t always have to be something like this.
Sometimes it’s just reading a book aloud as a family, or making their favorite lunch as a surprise.
But there are times when a little something extra is what’s called for.
The best part about this backyard picnic is that it didn’t cost us a thing.
The extra miles we go as homemakers don’t require money.
More than that they require time and energy.
And those are the things that are going to cause the positive ripple effects we all long to see for our families.
If you missed it, you should check it out and see how easy it is to be intentional as the homemaker in your home.
