Simple & Thrifty European Farmhouse Christmas | Beautiful Christmas Home Tour
Our European Farmhouse Christmas decorations this year are hands-down our favorite way our home has ever been decorated for Christmas.
Before I share my Christmas decorations with you I want to say a big Thank you to Kelly with The Tattered Pew for organizing this!
There are 29 of us sharing our homes all dressed up for Christmas, and they are all so inspiring!
If you’re here from Cottage On Bunker Hill thanks for coming!
I’m so glad you’re here!
Now, let’s get started with these Christmas ideas so we can all get back to our Christmas traditions and maybe create some new ones!
As I go through these thrifty tips, I’ll start in the entryway, then I’ll make my way into the living room to finish.
European Farmhouse Christmas Color Palette
Burgundy, Champagne & Orange Slices
Before I started decorating I decided on a color palette.
I knew I wanted to add orange slices to our Christmas decor this year.
But I was a little nervous about the way it would look with burgundy.
Once I dried the oranges and put them beside the burgundy I immediately fell in love.
The colors feel like they were meant to go together during the holiday season as much as red, white, and green.
This color combination alone feels like it is a nod to a European Farmhouse Christmas.
I then decided to add a neutral color to the scheme.
I went with champagne because I had a bunch of champagne ornaments from last year.
Why buy new ornaments when you already have perfectly reasonable ornaments?
This color scheme is so simple.
Nothing flashy or loud.
Calm and natural colors.
European Farmhouse Christmas : Homemade Decor
Ornaments
To further emphasize the European Farmhouse Christmas feeling, I decided to make as many ornaments by hand as possible.
This year the girls and I made cute vintage ornament with buttons from my grandma’s craft room, paper stars, dried orange slices, and popcorn garland.
I told you in my post about our old-fashion Christmas in the basement, that our goal is to create a magical and nostalgic Christmas this year.
Part of that is wrapped up in all the traditions and Christmas “activities” we do as a family.
At the girls’ ages, they are so eager to be helpers and it makes the whole progress of decorating that much more magical for me too.
They also love spending time with me right now.
Lately, my youngest has been telling me over and over again that she never wants me to leave her.
It’s one of the sweetest things she could ever tell me!
Although, I know the day when she packs her bags and heads out on an adventure all her own will be here before either of us know it.
Until then, I’m just going to be over here creating as many memories as possible.
Christmas Village
These little houses were given to my husband and me by his grandparents.
They built these years ago.
This year I decided I wanted a little Christmas village for our holiday decor and these houses and the church were perfect!
They are so simple and beautiful they fit perfectly with the European Farmhouse Christmas theme.
Not to mention one of the decorations my husband and I are both able to remise over are the Christmas villages we had growing up.
I also made these cute velvet trees from ribbon and floral foam from Joanns.
So many homemade decorations this year!
European Farmhouse Christmas : Mix Faux & Real Greenery
I can’t wait to show you how I made this garland on the mantel look so full and gorgeous.
Would you guess it starts with a cheap $6 piece of garland from Hobby Lobby?
Yes! It sure does!
My favorite way to add volume to all the garland and wreaths in our house is with real evergreen stems.
Recently, We picked out our Christmas tree from the local tree farm, and when I asked if I could have a few pieces of the scraps they were all about it!!
I’m not sure what they do with the scarp pieces when no one takes them, but multiple workers came by as I was going through the HUGE pile of evergreen stems, and told me to take more haha!
I got my choice of 6 different varieties of evergreen stems freshly cut for FREE!!
European Farmhouse Christmas : Ribbon
My love for ribbon has done nothing but increase since I added ribbon to my decor last year.
It was just a little bit of ribbon last year, but this year it kind of exploded haha!
One of my sweet friends Andrea with Pine and Prospect Home shared a fun tip with about ribbon.
Sometimes it can be so expensive.
When that happens head over to the fabric section.
Once you find the color and look you want, you can take it home and cut it into strips!
Genius right?!
I was fortunate to find most of my ribbon this year in the clearance bin.
But I do wish my burgundy ribbon was thicker.
Guess who might try this next year?!
Add it to your tree, your garland, wreaths, or simply over a picture frame.
The ribbon is simple, but it’s such a beautiful Christmas decoration.
Well, that’s all the Christmas inspo I have for you today.
As I wrap this up I’ll leave you with a little peek at what the dining room looks like for Christmas.
A little more ribbon!

Aliya, your Christmas decor is absolutely charming! I’ve been using the dried oranges the last few years, and I had similar concerns about using them with pastels, but natural decor seems to almost work as a neutral. I adore the look! It’s a pleasure to join you for another hop. Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction
