Beautiful European Cottage Autumn Kitchen Decor: Copper, Plum, & Pumpkin
I’m so happy with the way that our Autumn kitchen decor turned out this year! It was so easy to decorate and yet it’s still so beautiful!
If you read about our living room decor then you know that I’ve decided to go with a color scheme that reminds me of my childhood home.
I honestly am so happy with how it all came together.
It required a couple of DIY projects, but they were easy and therapeutic!
The wreath on the front door, and a few plum fabric pumpkins.
Autumn Kitchen Decor: Clean Slate
When I start decorating any space I like to remove “all the things” and give myself a blank slate.
I did the same thing in the kitchen.
Autumn Kitchen Decor: Adding the Essentials
After I had the shelves wiped off I started putting all the essentials back up on the shelves.
I realized that there really wasn’t much up there with only the bare minimum.
Plates.
Bowls.
Cups.
Mixing Bowls.
So I asked the girls what they thought, and they both said I needed to “add the bowls that look like mugs”.
So I climbed up in the cabinet above the fridge and pulled them out.
My husband and girls LOVE these bowls, but I secretly hid them because they don’t fit in the dishwasher properly haha!!
Oh, my word!
Why we do the things we do!
Then I asked my husband what he would like to see on the shelves, and he said coffee mugs.
So I added these coffee mugs I picked up at a flea market this Summer.
$4 for all 6!
Have I told you how much I love garage sales and flea markets?!
Autumn Kitchen Decor: Adding the Fall Decor
Now that I had everything out that we needed for function, it was time to start making it look like the fall of my childhood.
Adding Copper
I love my little copper collection so much.
It’s not a huge collection, but it’s still beautiful.
My favorite local vintage shop has an entire shelf dedicated to vintage copper.
Every time I stop in I go check and see if she has found anything new that I might “need” to bring home haha!
For our Autumn kitchen decor, I used this gorgeous copper platter that I added behind the mason jar cups.
I also added copper on top of our plates.
I placed a bowl with a plum fabric pumpkin inside of it.
Over on the other shelves, I added copper with this gorgeous copper miniature saucepan with a pour spout.
It’s one of my favorite copper finds.
In my research on vintage copper, I’ve learned that vintage copper will often have brass details.
This saucepan has a brass ring on the end of the wooden handle.
Someday I hope to finish these DIY open shelves with a peg rack below the bottom shelf and you know I’ll be hanging this saucepan from it!
But for now, it looks beautiful and casual laying beside the bowls.
Adding Plum
I added the plum color to the kitchen by adding some dried sedum from last years’ Fall garden clean-up.
I love the way it looks, but I didn’t have enough of it to put it in multiple places.
Not to mention it can get a little messy if it’s moved around too much.
So I decided to add one of the plum pumpkins to the copper bowl, and a cute purple flower I picked up at Rustik Market.
Lastly, I was walking through the grocery store and saw that the fall floral bouquets that fit the color scheme were now in the discount section.
I grabbed a couple of them and pulled out the flowers that were drooping and looking dead.
I gave all these florals a fresh cut, fresh water, and the floral food packet and they seem to be holding up really well!
Adding Real Pumpkins
I have always struggled with the corner of our counter.
Depending on which side of the island you walk into the kitchen from, that corner looks a little different.
I’ve decided to go with simple decor items that are round for the most part.
A round galvanized bucket full of flowers is my usual go-to for this corner.
But with Fall on my brain, I decided a giant green pumpkin would be a perfect fit too!
I also added a few of the white baby pumpkins we grew in the garden this year.
I put one in front of the vintage scale I picked up at a garage sale a few years ago.
For some reason I have always felt like it was not just vintage, it was Fall and Christmas vintage haha!
Which is why it got pulled out with the rest of the Fall decor this year.
Finally, I placed another white baby pumpkin on the counter in front of our mixer.
Adding Sentiment
Speaking of the mixer…
I wanted to tell you something else about the Fall decor in our kitchen.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not yet, but I have an empty frame sitting on top of one of our open shelves.
I recently started investigating why I’ve struggled so much in the kitchen lately (as far as cooking is concerned).
I make breakfast, lunch, and dinner nearly every day and by the time dinner arrives I’m over it haha!
I’ve decided for 2022 I am going to “master” 6 recipes.
2 desserts
2 main course items
2 side dishes
The recipe I’m working on will be housed in this picture frame.
Apparently, learning and “mastering” a new skill helps build confidence and enjoyment.
I don’t know, but I figure it’s worth a try.
So maybe by the time 2022 is over, I’ll have learned to love cooking more.
I haven’t selected my recipes yet, but I think I’ll be talking to my mom, grandma’s and mother-in-law to collect them.
Well, that’s it!
Autumn kitchen decor doesn’t have to be hard and complicated.
It can be very subtle and functional just like this!
