European Farmhouse Inspired Early Fall Entryway: Beautiful & Earthy
Fall decorating can be challenging. So I decided to share my decorating process using my early fall entryway ideas to help inspire you.
Each year when it’s time to pull out the fall decorations I suddenly feel PRESSURE!
I feel like I have to get the details of all the Fall decorating finalized ASAP so I can sit back and enjoy it.
This year I took a different approach:
- Accept that going slow doesn’t mean it’s bad or wrong
- Steps are helpful for gradually cruising into the season
- Start in one room and work your way into other rooms
- Perfection doesn’t exist
Decorating like this has done two things for me.
- Reduced my stess
- Help bring more fun into decorating
Early Fall Entryway
You might be wondering what is early Fall decor anyway?
Early Fall decor is a more neutral take on Fall.
Instead of decorating your home with all the orange, burgundy, plum, and mustard, you stick with a more neutral and green color scheme.
It’s honestly a really good place to start if you’re struggling with coming up with a full Fall home decor plan.
That’s a HUGE part of why I decided to go in this direction this Fall.
It helps give you a foundation to build off of for when you’re ready to start adding in the warm and cozy Fall colors and textures.
Step 1: Remove Bright Colors & Replace with Earthy Colors
Since it’s still hot and steamy here in Ohio, I’m not seeing all the color changes that occur when Fall really settles in.
I look out my windows and I see green.
Lots of green.
So to start phasing in Fall I removed all the Spring and Summer colors that I had in the entryway.
What I was left with was a nice blank slate.
A blank slate is my favorite place to start when I begin decorating a space.
First, it gives me a good excuse to give the area a good cleaning.
Next, a blank slate helps me find inspiration that I can’t see when the space is full.
(This is exactly what happened when I built the DIY pot rack last year haha!)
Step 2: Add In Earthy Early Entryway Fall Decor
Since I removed my denim jacket from the coat rack, I decided to replace it with my green cargo jacket.
I love my cargo jacket in the Fall, and why not utilize my everyday items to help transition from summer decor to fall decor?!
Then I cut some Autumn Olive and put it in my new vintage pot.
I recently bought this awesome vintage pot from Rustik Market and I’m loving it!
(Rustik Market just had their Fall Open House and I definitely recommend checking out all they have this year!)
By placing the pot here it added some of the calm and old-world charms that I love about European Farmhouse Style.
I also added some of the Autumn Olive to the console table.
I changed this space up a lot.
Remember the new blue wall art that we just put here this Summer?
It was replaced with a neutral and earthy window and a vintage black mirror.
I try to leave the right side of this table empty because it has naturally become the drop zone when guests come over.
And I like it that way.
It gives our guests an immediate invitation to unload and get comfortable.
Step 3: Add Neutral Pumpkins
Now, for an early Fall entryway, I’ve seen it go both ways.
Add the pumpkins.
Don’t add the pumpkins.
But as you can see, I’ve added a few pumpkins.
I don’t think pumpkins take away from the “early” at all.
These white babies were picked from our garden in late July!
For a while, I was just storing them on the kitchen counter, but when I decided to start decorating for Fall they magically started spreading out all over the house haha!
I did add a green pumpkin to the console table.
I wanted to create that earth-tone vibe and a green pumpkin was the ticket!
That little white pumpkin grew a little funny, which is why it was one of the first pumpkins to get pulled from the pile.
One side of the pumpkin is flat, and I love it!
But if you’re not ready for pumpkins, another option would be apples!
In fact, I’m putting together a fun apple picnic in our backyard soon.
Think apple cider, apple donuts, and an amazing evening enjoying apple treats with your sweet family.
Step 4: Enjoy the Early Fall Entryway & Plan for Your Cozy Fall Decor
I found my inspiration for my 2021 Fall decor from my childhood home.
I didn’t realize it when I made the decision, but after I talked to my friend about what I was planning she instantly said, “That’s so interesting! Reminds me of the way your Mom used to decorate.”
The more I think about it, the more and more places I’m finding my Fall decor color scheme in my childhood.
I wish I could go snap some pictures for you guys, but my parents moved out of that house and downsized.
I guess during times of chaos and confusion we retreat back to the comforts of familiarity.
As a mother and wife, I try to devote so much of my time to comforting and caring for others.
Not to mention the way my heart has been breaking over all the pain that is happening around me right now.
I’m excited to transform our home for Fall into a home that brings me back to the beautiful innocence of childhood.
This is why, when my baby wants to twirl, I capture the moment on camera.

Oh, friend. This speaks to my heart so much. I have been feeling so much pressure to do “all the things” lately. And as such, it has taken all of the fun out of decorating. I am dragging my feet on getting out my fall bins. And I LOVE fall!
I plan to use earth tones this year, so I am getting all kinds of inspiration from your post. And I love that your sweet, beautiful baby got in on the photoshoot fun.
Happy fall!
Aliya

Hi Aliya!
I found you today from Laura Bloomquist – Create and Ponder. I’m so glad I found your post today. Where I live in northern Florida we dot not have a “Fall”. If we are lucky, we may have a few days here and there where the temps get low – mid to high 70s. I feel so much more alive in them. We have green all the way through Christmas and beyond. Not all the trees lose their leaves, and those that do just look an unhealthy brown. I have one Florida maple in my back yard that will get all yellow right at Christmas. Strange to see that “Fall” yellow tree creating a silhouette around my Christmas tree standing by the window. I never thought about a green fall palette and just didn’t decorate. I have something new to do this weekend! Thank you for your inspiration!
