Simple Must-Haves For A Stunning Backyard Boho Garden Party
Summer isn’t over yet, so why not create some amazing memories with a stunning backyard boho garden party before Fall officially arrives?
Family Centered Boho Garden Parties
Fall is my favorite season. But this year with my oldest starting kindergarten I’m trying to hold on to Summer for as long as possible.
Honestly, it’s not summer I’m trying to hold on to. It’s my time with her.
I know this is something that every mom experiences.
As happy and excited as I am, I’m terrified and stressed.
It’s so hard learning to let go.
Whether you’re letting go while they head off to college, get married, or start kindergarten.
The process is not all butterflies and rainbows.
It’s staying up late re-reading that email one more time, double-checking the school supply list the night before, and crying as you wave goodbye.
It’s good. She’ll gain so much independence this year.
The thing is, this is something I’ve wanted for so long.
I want her to be able to get her own snack and prepare her own meals.
I want her to give herself a shower, and finish without asking me to make sure her hair is completely rinsed.
But, then these moments in life come. She gains that independence, and I’m left here thinking…
Everyone was right!
I miss those days.
Those days before school, before independence, and before growing up.
A Simple and Budget-Friendly Boho Garden Picnic
So, in my attempt to hold on just a little while longer, I’ve decided to put together as many of our backyard boho picnics as possible.
Guess who helped me put this backyard boho garden party together?
Yup!
My oldest!!
She LOVES these picnics so much!
We can’t get through a picnic without her telling us all about how wonderful it is haha!
We just finished this one and I’m already thinking about a dozen more picnics before winter arrives.
Maybe it’s the cooler weather that’s coming. But it’s probably watching the joy in my girls as they help create and enjoy these garden parties with me.
Boho Garden Party Must-Haves
We’ve all seen those gorgeous and seemingly impossible backyard garden party settings.
They’re so beautiful!
But they look nearly impossible to actually recreate without spending a ton of money and time.
Since I don’t have an overabundance of either, I decided to share how you can still have a gorgeous Summer garden party without spending a bunch of money or time creating it.
Mismatched Tea Sets
My husband and I have been so fortunate to each receive a tea set from each of our families.
I know that not everyone has vintage china from grandparents, but I see pieces here and there all the time at garage sales and flea markets.
Will you find an entire set?
Maybe not.
But guess what?
A backyard boho garden party has more character when things are mismatched.
The word “boho” means unconventional.
So throw together a party with mismatched pieces from your kitchen, china hutch, and a couple of garage sales!
Low Wooden Table
This is my new boho table!!!
I told you guys in my Mother’s Day picnic post that our dog decided to use my DIY pallet table as a chew toy. So we had to get a new table.
We found this in the old chicken house.
The same place we found those glass bottles last year.
It was actually an old shelf when it was originally built.
My husband and father-in-law rescued it for me. Then I gave it a good scrubbing and sanded it down a bit.
Boom! It was ready to go!
If you don’t have an old shelf like this one, then a pallet or blanket would work just fine.
Candles
Something about real candles makes the table setting feel like it’s alive.
The flames dancing in all the different locations feel so inviting.
They almost ask you to come and sit down beside them, don’t they?
I truly don’t think you could ever have too many candles.
They can be finicky with the wind.
But it kind of reminds me of this quote.
We can complain because rose bushes have thorns or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.
Alphonse Karr
The wind is the reason why the candles blow out, but it is also the reason the wax melts in this gorgeous and romantic fashion.
HINT: Adding candles at different heights will help create a layered and multidimensional look.
Table Runner
I’ve used table cloths, and table runners before.
I’ve even used blanket scarves for some of my table settings before.
But for this one, I decided to pull out one of my old necklaces that my girls love to play with.
I never wear it anymore, so it just hangs in my closet.
Once they found it I thought it would be a fun addition to a backyard picnic someday.
It took me a while to finally do it, but I did!
I also found a few random strands of lace ribbon when I went to grab my vases for this table setting.
Forged Flowers
I could be wrong, but I think this is one of the reasons my girls love these boho garden picnics so much.
They get to wander around and help me pick flowers for the table.
It’s such a sweet time.
Once we went forging for flowers for a pressed flower project we did earlier this year.
I can still remember watching their hair bounce and blow through the wind as they ran around chasing each other while they collected flowers.
This time I actually started by myself, but before I was finished I had both my girls standing beside our rose of Sharon bush helping me select flowers to cut.
The Best Part of A Boho Garden Party
Can you guess what my favorite part of a backyard boho garden party is?
Yup!
The memories.
That’s exactly why I wanted to share this post.
Can you imagine all that I’d miss out on if I waiting until I had all the money and time to create the picture-perfect scene?
I found a necklace, ribbon, mismatched china, forged for flowers and some candles.
Then I put them on a table.
That’s it! That’s how easy it is.
When we simplify, we find space for more time and more joy for the things that matter most.
