Ways to Use a Dutch Tulip Tray for Decor in the Home
A few weeks ago my husband and I built a dutch tulip tray. I’ve been wanting one for a while now and decided instead of buying one, I’d build one. I used some wood from the scrap pile. This made the scrap pile smaller and it was free! My husband and I were both winning!! Since we built it, I’ve had it in a few different places, and knowing me, it probably won’t stay where it is now for long haha. Anyway, since I’ve given this tray multiple roles in this house, I thought I’d share a few to help you see how one piece of decor can be purposed and repurposed over and over again!
Entryway Shoe Storage
This was where I intended on putting the dutch tulip tray, if you remember from my previous post about the entryway. I really do love the entryway with the tulip tray in it! It gives the shoes a home when we come back inside. But with Summer quickly approaching, the front door isn’t the most heavily used entrance in our home. We use the basement door at least 17 times a day in the Summer. Its how we get to the playset, trampoline, garden, fire pit, the pond, the woods, the neighbors walking paths…I mean I could go on. So, we will not have many shoes to store in this if it stays here for Summer.
Coffee Table
I also thought about putting the dutch tulip tray on the coffee table. We recently painted the basement and I redecorated a little. I thought adding this to the coffee table would help increase the cozy factor, which it did. But I wasn’t in love with it. We utilize our coffee tables for building blanket forts and playing board games, which means this would only be in the way. I didn’t love it here, but I left it sit here for a little bit for a couple reasons:
- Waiting for inspiration
- Give my little designers a chance to decorate with Mommy’s stuff
Guess what? Inspiration eventually hit and the girls absolutely put their own spin on how this should be styled! I wish I had been thinking and pulled out my camera!
On A Shelf
This is the current location for the dutch tulip tray! I was working on restyling this pie safe right before I finished the DIY. With the new french farmhouse plan I had for the pie safe, I knew I was going to need more wood elements. Since I wasn’t in love with the tulip tray on the coffee table, I brought it upstairs and put it on a shelf. I absolutely LOVE it here!
Like I said at the beginning, I rarely keep anything in one place for long. So don’t be surprised if it appears this thing has grown legs and walked itself to a new location for a completely new purpose. But that is one of my favorite things about the dutch tulip tray. It can have many uses depending on the season and your needs! This week I’m intentionally keeping this short and simple. The weather is amazing! The garden is calling, so I must go! Thanks for dropping by! Have a great week! XoXo
